Shadows of the Past…..

The six hundred year long story of St. John the Baptist, Tideswell will be told during the village’s Wakes TP-195c-HGSJ_Tomb-2016and Well Dressing Week (June 22nd – 30th) with a unique art installation, “Shadows of the Past: A History of The Cathedral of the Peak in a Hundred People.” Short biographies of a hundred people whose lives have touched St. John’s will be displayed in a strikingly visual way, inviting visitors to take a walk through history, and to meet some remarkable people, such as the mysterious de Bowers, commemorated in the south transept (see picture). The church will be open from 10am to 6pm each day, with refreshments served until about 4pm, and entry is free.
